Tom Brady’s father has insisted his son is not retiring from the NFL.
The 44-year-old Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback – who has won seven Super Bowls in his 22-year career – reportedly decided on Saturday (29.01.22) to quietly abandon the game, but his father, Tom Brady Sr, criticized the speculation.
He told NFL Network’s Mike Giardi: “This story, Mike, is total guesswork. Tommy hasn’t made a final decision one way or the other and anyone who says he has has absolutely wrong.”
And Tom Sr. also told KRON 4 News that his son is not retiring and added that “an online post started circulating an unsubstantiated rumor.”
The sportsman’s agent, Don Yee, has advised fans to wait for any announcement from Tom himself.
He told TMZ: “I understand the speculation being put forward about Tom’s future. Without going into the accuracy or inaccuracy of what is being reported, Tom will be the only person to express his plans with complete accuracy. He knows the realities of the football industry and the planning calendar as well as anyone, so it should be soon.
ESPN had claimed sources had told them that Tom – who has Benjamin, 12, and Vivian, nine, with wife Gisele Bundchen and Jack, 14, from a previous relationship – wanted to quit without fanfare and the game of Last week’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers against the Los Angeles Rams were his last.
The insiders added that his decision to step down is based on “several factors including family and health” and that Tom is “preparing his retirement announcement as well as the next chapter in his life and career.”
Speaking recently on the ‘Let’s Go’ podcast with host Jim Gray, the footballer said he was “satisfied” with his NFL career.
He said: “I said a few years ago, that’s what relationships are. That’s not always what I want. That’s what we want as a family. And I going to spend a lot of time with them and figure out in the future what’s next.
“I’ll know when I find out. I think for all of us, you know, we can all decompress a bit. It’s been six consecutive months of football. Every day is consumed by football day by day. And I think now it’s is just some time to hang out with my family and hang out with my kids.”
