Skunk Anansie singer Skin never takes off a necklace that reminds her of her baby girl.
The 54-year-old musician – real name Deborah Ann Dyer – and fiancée Rayne Baron welcomed daughter Lev last November and the singer still feels connected to her family even when on tour thanks to the special gift that she received from her companion after the birth of their little girl.
In an interview with UK magazine ELLE about her style, she said: “The one thing I never take off is the necklace my partner gave me to commemorate the birth of our daughter.
“It was custom made and engraved with her name in Hebrew and I feel like she is always with me, especially when I’m on tour.”
The “Weak” singer admitted that being a mother has changed her ideas about “material feeling.”
She explained, “Having a child changed my perspective on material feeling.
“Things like jewelry and clothes aren’t just objects, they’re memories and romance – like my boots with mud from Glastonbury still stuck on them.
“Or my 16-year-old pink corduroy pants – for every hole that appeared in the hems, I would shorten them a tiny bit to hold them longer. They all have a unique place in my heart and my story.
Speaking last October, Skin – who confirmed she and Rayne were not going to find out the gender of their baby until it was born – admitted she was ‘excited’ to have a child even if she had never wanted to be pregnant herself.
She said: “I never wanted to have a baby myself, in my own body. But I love having someone else do it.
“I already raised a child in my previous relationship. I love children and I have lots of nieces and nephews.
“Kids love me because I’m stupid. I can’t wait to dress a little baby in silly clothes while we can!”
