Many suitors have been lined up to be the next Mr. Bond, but Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has claimed it’s time to shine as Agent 007.

In an interview with Esquire, former WWE star Mr Johnson confessed his grandfather was a Bond villain, acting alongside Sean Connery in the 007 movie ‘You Only Live Twice’.

He said: “I would like to follow in his footsteps and be the next Bond. I don’t want to be the bad guy, I have to be Bond.

Until now, there has never been a non-white James Bond, and many fans are asking that the new Bond be chosen with diversity in mind.

Luther star Idris Elba was one of the favorites in the running to be the next James Bond, but he ruled himself out.

At the premiere of Mr. Elba’s new Netflix film, The Harder They Fall, he said: “No, I won’t be James Bond.”

But when asked if he would like to play the role, he replied: “Who wouldn’t?

“Would it be amazing to have a Black James Bond? It’s a sign of the times when we can stop talking about black, white and color.”
